Biography
Dr. Zilch was born in late 1997 in the suburbs of Lisbon (Portugal), under the influence of metal aggressiveness, techno beats and orchestral dark ambient.
Three months and three songs later, the band was signing with PolyGram.
The name Dr. Zilch means Dr. Nothing… Zero… Nada.
It personifies those who socially feel themselves the all mighty, but who within the reality of our existence represent absolutely nothing!
This image of a Dr. Zilch exposes the human nature that in a certain way thinks of itself as “God”.
Since the first time they performed their intense live show in August 15th 1998, they have shared stage with names like Clawfinger, Senser, PitchShifter, The Young Gods and Moonspell (just to name a few).
The first single Flesh Getting Higher, which included a powerful remix by the famous DJ XL-Garcia, was out in February 1999. The uncensored version of its shocking video-clip was on air for several months on Portuguese / Spanish TV Music Channel Sol Musica.
Other Portuguese channels like CNL, SIC Radical and even RTP 1 would give it some highlight.
Their debut album Artcore XXI was released in October 25th 1999 by PolyGram / Universal Music Portugal.
It received great critical acclaim.
In November 3rd The Questioning Worm was released. It was the second single taken from Artcore XXI.
In late 2000, due to the very small Portuguese market and the serious difficulties of the major labels in putting the bands in the outside markets, Dr. Zilch decided not to release the second album through Universal Music.
In 2003 the version of Homem Do Leme (originally by Xutos & Pontapés) had some airplay on Portuguese mainstream radios such as Rádio Comercial.
After a long time in studio and coming up with their own label Artcore Records, Dr. Zilch finally released their second album in September 2005.
A Little Taste of Hell Vol.1 was recorded at Artcore Studio, mixed by José Castanheira and mastered by Björn Engelmann (Rammstein, Clawfinger, Backyard Babies, In Flames, Hypocrisy, etc.).
Games of Wonder was the first single taken from A Little Taste of Hell Vol.1, and it’s still Dr. Zilch’s original song with the greatest airplay ever!!!
Even Platinum Blue Music Intelligence Inc. (New York - USA) has recognized Dr. Zilch’s single Games of Wonder as a Hit grade potential song!
Meanwhile, the band managed to distribute their CD’s and Downloads worldwide. This made them having their work being covered by international press.
In 2007 besides Games of Wonder, Another Sucker has been included in Portuguese and international compilations as well.
By February 2008, the infamous Made In Hell video-clip was released.
It could be seen on Sic Radical TV station in a censored version!
2009 has started with Relax recordings. By October, this version of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s classic would be included in a Portuguese compilation with names like Moonspell and Tarantula.
Six years after being released, Relax is still having great airplay on radio stations such as 105.4 FM.
The 2015 comeback, started with a 3 hour radio live show in Brazil.
Until the end of the year there will be a lot of new events to celebrate A Little Taste Of Hell Vol.1 10th anniversary.
In 2017 a new video-clip was filmed in order to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary.
Some call them a Techno-Metal band; others say they’re some kind of Post-Industrial-Goth-Rock.
The truth is that their irreverent and unpredictable attitude makes Dr. Zilch one of a kind!!!
